Both change the colour and both protect the factory paint underneath. Vinyl is the choice for range: more than 500 finishes, easy partial wraps and printed designs, and the lower cost. Coloured paint protection film is the choice for durability: fewer finishes, but the film is thicker, self-healing and built to take stone chips.

Most colour changes we do are vinyl. Vehicles that live on gravel or Highway 97 usually leave in coloured PPF. If you are not sure, start a quote online and mention how the vehicle gets used.

Five to seven years on vertical panels is normal in this climate. Horizontal surfaces like the hood and the roof take the most UV and usually go first, so expect the shorter end there.

Keeping it out of automatic washes and out of direct sun where you can is what actually extends it.

No. On factory paint in good condition, it protects it. The film shields the paint from stone chips and UV for as long as it is on, and it comes off without residue when removed properly.

Repainted panels are the exception. Aftermarket paint that has not fully cured, or that was not prepped well, can lift with the film. Tell us about any bodywork before we quote.

Not over rust. Vinyl needs a sound surface to key to, and wrapping over rust traps moisture and makes it worse. Small dents and chips are usually fine, though the film will follow the shape rather than hide it.

We will tell you honestly what will and will not disappear under film when we look at the vehicle.

They solve different problems. PPF is a physical 8-mil film that stops stone chips and road rash. A ceramic coating is a chemical layer measured in microns; it resists etching and makes the car easy to clean, but it will not stop a rock.

On a highway vehicle, film on the strike zone and a coating over the rest of the car is the combination that makes sense.

DYNOshield uses UV-resistant, anti-yellowing adhesives, so it should not. The film that yellowed was the generation before this one.

Most people do not. The front bumper, the leading edge of the hood and the mirrors take almost all of the damage on Highway 97; rockers and the area behind the front wheels come next.

BC does not permit aftermarket film on the windshield below the AS-1 line, or on the front side windows. Rear side windows and the rear window are unrestricted.

If the vehicle parks outside, yes. Both block UV, but ceramic rejects far more infrared, and that is the part of sunlight you feel as heat through the glass. On a truck through a Peace Region summer the difference is obvious.

If the car lives in a garage and you mainly want the look, carbon does the job for less.

That is normal and it clears. Moisture is still escaping through the film; it takes a few days in summer and up to a couple of weeks in cold weather.

Leave the windows up for three days and do not try to press the pockets out.
